Speed improvements in Firefox 3.1

Computerworld has an interesting story on experiments with a new Javascript interpreter for Firefox 3.1, scheduled for release late this year or early 2009:

Mozilla turbocharges Firefox, touts major speed gains

According to benchmark tests, the new “TraceMonkey” interpreter is about 2.4 times faster than the hitherto fastest interpreter, found in Apple’s Safari browser.
Though still at the alpha stage, and disabled by default in the latest Firefox nightly, the speed gains give promise to a whole range of new uses and applications for the Firefox browser.

Cool future browser concept videos from Mozilla!

As you may have heard, the good people at Mozilla Labs have been doing some brainstorming on a future web browser (“Aurora”), and has come up with some very cool videos demonstrating 3 different usage scenarios.

Whether or not this will be Firefox a decade from now remains to be seen, of course, but if this is a sign of things to come, the web browsing experience is going to change radically.
